Angelina’s Mont-Blanc Reaches New Heights… But Yann Couvreur & Cédric Grolet Are Still Pastry Mountaineers

☀️ Paris in August. The locals have fled to Provence, La Vendée, Bretagne, Biarritz, or Arcachon. The city exhales. 🥐

Mood: 😌 So much better
Traffic: 🚗 Civilized
Metro: 🚇 Less stuffy
Reservations: 📅 Manageable
Lines: 📉 Fewer
Parking: 🅿️ Possible!
Bonus: 🌱 Less pollution

Yes, Cédric Grolet, Carette, and Angelina’s still draw lines — but in August, they’re less like Disneyland and more like… mildly popular karaoke night.

🍫 Angelina’s (226 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris – angelina-paris.fr)

Visit: Early Saturday, 8:45am — no line.

  • Hot Chocolate: Still ridiculous — sweet, rich, unctuous, and possibly addictive. (The whipped cream is the getaway driver.)

  • 🌰 Mont-Blanc Classic: Still a chestnut lover’s dream.

  • 🍑 Mont-Blanc Abricot: Game-changer. Even if you don’t like apricots, the fruit’s acidity + meringue sweetness = balance perfection.

  • 🍔 Skip the burger: If you crave one, fly to NYC’s 4 Charles or Boston’s Abe & Louis — if your budget likes turbulence.

🥥 Yann Couvreur (23bis Rue des Rosiers, 75004 Paris – yanncouvreur.com)

Still one of Paris’s pastry GOATs.

  • 🍋🥥 Tarte Citron Vert & Noix de Coco, Framboisier Rose Coco, Tarte Myrtilles: Still charming hearts (and stomachs).

  • 🍑🌿 Tarte Abricot Thym Citron: Simplicity meets power flavor.

  • 🍮 Flan & Chouquettes: Still best-in-class. Ah, the chouquettes… ah, the flan.

  • 🌭 Sweet Hot Dog: Sounds weird. Is weird. Also works. The turkey bun? Surprisingly seductive.

🍓 Cédric Grolet (Opéra, 35 Av. de l’Opéra – cedric-grolet.com/opera)

Still the king of “beautiful fruit you almost don’t want to eat.” Long line, high price — worth it if you choose wisely.

  • 💎 Raspberry Diamond Tart: As dazzling as it sounds.

  • 🍓 Pavlovas, edible flowers — miracles of pastry-making.

  • 🍏 Skip the Grillé aux Pommes: Sounds intriguing, but no soul.

  • 🌼 La Fleur Vanille: Genius top layers (vanilla mousse, dacquoise, praliné crunch) but a base so rich it tries to buy a yacht.

  • 🥐 Pain Suisse: Disappointing for the price.

  • 🎯 Verdict: Incredible overall… but remember, Yann Couvreur and Angelina’s will also happily blow your mind for less.

📍 Bonus Bites Around Paris

  1. Ladurée’s Flan (16 Rue Royale, 75008 Paris – laduree.fr) — still the champ. 🥇🍮

  2. La Grande Épicerie (38 Rue de Sèvres, 75007 Paris – lagrandeepicerie.com) — yogurt from La Ferme du Manège + Comté cheese = grocery store nirvana. 🛒💛

  3. Comptoir du Ritz (38 Rue Cambon, 75001 Paris – ritzparislecomptoir.com) — sandwiches = fine, prices = oof. Madeleine? Wonderful. Millefeuille to-go? Light, airy perfection. 🍰

  4. Puffy’s Cookies (puffycookies.fr) — Chocolate & hazelnut, dark chocolate, or white chocolate + matcha. Will make you (yes) nuts. 🍪💚

💬 Funanc1al Verdict:
Paris in August is your VIP pass to pastry heaven — shorter lines, sweeter deals (sometimes), and desserts that make you forget the Riviera exists. Just bring an appetite… and maybe a second stomach.
