Seven Seas Pub — The Lobster Roll Still Floats, But the Ship Took On Water
A Return Visit to Milford’s Nautical Favorite Reveals Why Restaurant Consistency Matters ⚓
A few months ago, we visited Seven Seas Pub & Restaurant in Milford, CT and genuinely loved the experience.
The lobster roll?
Terrific.
The crab cake?
Excellent.
The nautical pub vibe?
Warm, cozy, delightfully old-school New England. ⚓
So naturally, we returned.
And unfortunately… this second voyage hit rougher seas. 🌊
Now, to be fair:
the service remained pleasant throughout. Everyone was polite and friendly.
But also:
we were one of only two parties in the restaurant… and still had to get up and hunt for silverware three separate times. 🍴🏃
That’s less “table service” and more “escape room challenge.”
🦞 The Lobster Roll Still Delivers… Mostly
Good news first:
the lobster roll remains quite good.
Buttery.
Fresh.
Classic.
Still the star of the harbor.
Bad news?
At roughly $40 market price, the portion now feels oddly miniature — like the lobster itself may have entered a recession. 📉🦞
Inflation is real.
But so is appetite.
🦀 Crab Cake: From Glory to “Maybe Reheat?”
Last time, the crab cake was one of the stars of the meal.
This time?
Underwhelming.
Possibly the same recipe.
Definitely not the same execution.
Served lukewarm and lacking that magical fresh-off-the-pan energy, it felt less like “coastal delight” and more like “microwaved compromise.”
🥣 The Bisque & Fish Sandwich Disaster
And now… the painful part.
The lobster bisque and fish sandwich were both disappointing.
Not “slightly off.”
Not “okay-ish.”
Just… disappointing.
The fish sandwich lacked punch, freshness, and excitement.
The bisque somehow managed to feel both forgettable and oddly sad at the same time.
Which is particularly tragic because lobster bisque should feel like receiving a warm maritime hug from New England itself. ⚓🥣
⚓ Nice Decor Can’t Carry the Entire Ship
The restaurant still looks good.
The nautical atmosphere still works.
The wood tones and old-school pub aesthetic remain charming.
But ambiance alone cannot justify a ~$100 meal for two when the food execution becomes inconsistent.
And that’s really the issue here:
👉 consistency.
Great local restaurants don’t just win you once.
They make you WANT to return.
Right now, Seven Seas feels more like a place resting on past goodwill than actively earning the next visit.
🎯 Final Take
We don’t regret the first visit.
And we don’t regret giving it another shot.
But after this return trip?
We probably won’t be back for a while.
The lobster roll still has flashes of greatness.
The vibe still has charm.
But the overall value equation no longer works in its favor.
And in 2026?
Restaurants competing for repeat customers need more than nostalgia and nautical decorations.
They need execution.
Even at cruise control. 🚢🦞
